Rescue the Children is an 501c3 non-profit organization established to provide help to orphaned, abandoned or at risk children. Our program provides, at no cost to the children or families of the children, clothes, food, and other personal necessities in addition to educational opportunities and encouragement. We assist other organizations that are involved in improving the lives of children.
Rescue the Children June Update
Hola amigos and family,
Wow, the past few months have really gone by fast for us and so much has happened. On a personal note, in April, we enjoyed celebrating our grandaughters first birthday. I could go on forever about that, but won't. In May, our daughter, Joy, graduated from the Univ. of Texas at San Antonio and we are proud of her and rejoice over that. We were able to visit with many of the friends and partners of Rescue the Children while we were in Texas. A special thank you for those who gave us lodging and food. Also for those who donated materials for us to bring back to Mexico. Now Mexico, yes, we are still here and there is much going on. Allow us to give a brief update.
We just "happened" to be in Houston when the flue epidemic broke out. Good news is that there were no outbreaks in Saltillo or at the children's home in Matamoros. Everything but the essential businesses (banks, hospitals, police stations) were closed down and people strongly urged and often forbidden to meet. Even churches closed for a time. We returned to Saltillo in May in time to help host a medical team led by Disciples of the Rock ministry from Gatesville, TX. In three days this team collaborated with medical staff in Saltillo to care for the physical and share the message of the love of Jesus Christ with over 500 adults and children. All services were free and many who needed them were given necessary medications by licensed pharmacists at no charge. This was a huge blessing to the people who are truly experiencing the brunt of the slow economy.
The feeding centers (comedores) continue to be a blessing to the cummunities and prepared food "to go" during the flu crisis. Mothers would come by at noon and pick up enough food to make it through the day. This was a labor of love from the Hernandez family and their helpers and something they most certainly didn't have to do, but felt the Lord was saying to do so. As of this note, most social services and government offices are open and functioning. Several businesses have closed, especially anything connected with the car industry.
Kinder-classes have resumed at the habitat centers. These classes are for the mothers who cannot afford the fees needed for "public" education. Please continue to pray for Mexico. The opportunities to reach out to more people are greater than ever due to the increased unemployment. Mexico has been hurt greatly with the economic down turn, border violence and the flu virus.
We appreicate you and ask for your continued prayer and financial support which is greatly needed in these times.
Blessed to be a blessing, Cliff and Krista Thiele
